Specialty Garden Tours
We offer a number of Specialty Garden Tours. Specialty
Garden Tours are generally a little more than 30 minutes, depending on the
interests of the group and questions that come up. Individuals with
additional questions may want to spend more time talking with the docent
following the group time.
Group leaders will want to arrange specialty tours well in advance in
order to ensure that docents are available. The menu of specialty tours
will change from time to time. Be sure to check with us about even more
opportunities.
The Conifer Garden - Our Conifer Garden showcases over 500
species of conifers and additional companion plants. See and hear
stories about some of the more spectacular specimens. The colors,
textures, and quirks hold a few surprises for everyone.
The Lewis and Clark Garden - Plants will be your hosts and
metaphor as you take a journey from The Dalles down the Columbia and on
to the Pacific Coast. These are native specimens that would have been
encountered by Lewis and Clark on their famous journey.
The Silverton Market Garden - Backyard gardens from a local
perspective. You'll have lots of opportunity to ask questions and feel
and sniff the plants. Square foot gardening. Lasagna gardens. What do we
plant and why? The art in this area is fun, too.
The Wetlands - The Oregon Garden is what we are and where we are
because of the decision of the City of Silverton to create these
wetlands. Your guide will talk about the history of these created
wetlands, native plants installed here, and animals that have come to
make their homes.
The Tropical House - Officially opened in November of 2008, this
is a relatively new installation for us. Watch as we grow our collection
of orchids and other tropical friends. Will there be a tree frog?
Orchids blooming?
The Oak Grove - (coming in 2010) - Learn about plants used by
Native Americans in their seasonal rounds. Acorns from the white oaks,
camas bulbs, and more.
