Throughout the year The Oregon Garden offers many Special Events for kids of all ages. Here's a list of the learning opportunities and fun at The Garden this year.
2006 Education Special Events Calendar
April 2 - Arbor Day Tree Walk
2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Take a guided tour of the Oregon Garden and discover its distinguished trees, including a heritage tree, state tree and one-of-a-kind varieties. Learn about the Rediscovery Forest, a demonstration forest that gives students and visitors opportunities to learn about Oregon's sustainable forest.

April 8 - Girl Scout Jamboree
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Come meet scouts from all across Oregon. All Girl Scouts are invited to complete a badge program at the Garden. Junior Girl Scout workshops offered are: Earth Connections, Outdoor Creativity, Wildlife, or Finding Your Way. Workshops take place outdoors, rain or shine. Pre-registration by phone is required. Bring a lunch and a picnic area will be provided or visit the lovely cafe.

Cost: $11 per scout. Badge Included. One chaperone per five girls is required. This adult is free. - additional adults need to pay a $7 admission fee.

April 22 - Earth Day
10 a.m. - 4 p.m
May 6 - Brownie Jamboree
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Come meet Brownie Scouts from all across Oregon. All Brownie Scouts are invited to complete a Try-it program at the Garden. Brownie Scout Try-its offered are: Earth and Sky, Eco Explorer, Plants, Animals or Water Everywhere. Workshops take place outdoors, rain or shine. Bring a lunch and a picnic area will be provided or visit the lovely cafe. Pre-registration by phone is required.

June 3 - August 26 – Saturdays For Kids
11 am - 3 pm
Become a Nature Master at Saturday 4 Kids. Every Saturday June 3rd through August 26th take part in fun hands-on activities in the Children's Garden. There are 4 different themes from bugs, flowers, birds to trees, complete all 4 and become a Nature Master! Click here for more info.

June 19, 2006 (Start) Oregon Teachers on Summer Assignment
Educators can apply for this opportunity to work 6 weeks with a forestry organization in Oregon and get hands-on experience.
Two workshops associated with the program will cover forest ecology, field data collection methods, inquiry process, trends in Oregon’s forests, Oregon Forest Practices Act and field visits to a local nursery and sawmill. Applications available in March. (Credit, PDU’s and Salary available)

June 20-22, 2006: Summer Ecology Series: Focus on Forests and Wildlife
8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m
Bring nature into your classroom! During this workshop we will explore the relationships between forests, wildlife and the places we live. By the end of the training you will have received the frou respected natural resource curriculums: Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, The Changing Forests: Forest Ecology & Newly Released - Places We Live. (Credit and PDU’s available)

September 13– Home School Day
10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
We will have hands-on learning stations throughout The Garden that you may visit at your own pace. Guided tour at 1 pm. Activities geared towards ages 4-12 but ages 13-18 are welcome as well. Picnic area will be available. Bring your own lunch or visit our café.
Cost: $5 per student ages 4 and up; $5 per adult chaperone
Payment will take place the day of the program, cash and checks only please.
